Laverne MediaI set up Laverne Media in the autumn of 2020 as an umbrella for my freelancing career.
I am a veteran journalist and editor who has worked across the media landscape for more than 20 years including stints at The Sun, MailOnline, The Evening Standard and ITN. As Laverne Media,I have worked as a consultant in PR, crisis comms and media training. But my primary function remains writing - content creation, ghost writing and speech writing for and about clients including WeTransfer, The Wine and Spirit Trade Association, The Canal & River Trust, Mastercard, OneFootball, Fat Boy Slim, Virgin Media, The Prince’s Trust, Omaze, the Mayor of London, Cat Phones, Warner's Gin, Credit Kudos, Cushon, Subscribe, World Mobile, TMT Analysis and more. This has involved working for agencies including Restless, Seven Consultancy, London Media, Sharp Minds, 72 Point, Democracy and Olley Goss. And simultaneously I have continued to pursue journalism, writing for publications including The Spectator, The Critic, Mail Online, The Guardian/Observer, The Express and many others. |
Why Laverne? My middle name is Laverne. This was down to some obscure Sturgis family tradition, the precise reason being lost in time but originating in late-Victorian Ontario; I am at least the fourth generation Sturgis to experience this horror. (My older son is the fifth).
Growing up in commuter belt Kent in the 1970s, it was widely perceived as weird and I would dread moments when my secret shame would be revealed - usually at times of heightened self-consciousness like the first registration call in a new class. Every time it was made public once again that my middle name was Laverne it would cause mass hilarity and I would die a little inside. And that was even before Laverne and Shirley, the sitcom, came along - and it became a ‘girls’ name’ too.
By choosing this name I am reclaiming Laverne as a positive attribute - I am Laverne and proud. For a small fee you could be too. |
